The Artist's Story

I am a photographer drawn to wild places and exploration, with the ocean at the centre of my work. My photographs are shaped by a life spent in and around the sea, from the cold Atlantic waters of South Africa to the tropical atolls of the Maldives. My work explores the ocean from above and below the surface and aims to capture the beauty of the worlds wildest places, bringing those special moments into the spaces where my fine art prints live. My work is a record of the places that have influenced me as an artist. 

From the Atlantic

I grew up beside the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean in South Africa. The sea was part of everyday life, and it wasn’t long before my love for surfing and photography became intertwined. I began photographing from the shoreline, but quickly found myself wanting to get closer. I bought a waterproof housing and started shooting from with in the water with my camera. My African Waters Collection grew from that relationship with home, a collection of photographs made in the waters that shaped me both as a surfer and photographer.

South African Expedition

In 2022, I set off on a six month photographic road trip along the coast of South Africa in a van I had converted with the help of my father. With a few sponsors supporting the journey, I travelled the coastline with no fixed itinerary beyond the desire to explore and photograph the waters of South Africa. It took me to remote beaches, unfamiliar breaks and wild stretches of coastline that I would never have otherwise seen. More than anything, the journey changed the direction of my work and fueled my travel addictions, specifically to more remote, untouched parts of the world.

Two Years in the Maldives

Eventually, the search for warmer water took me far from home. I found myself living and working aboard a sailing yacht in the Maldives, spending two years travelling between the islands and atolls of the crystal clear, blue waters of the archipelago. My days revolved around the ocean, surfing, freediving, fishing and exploring the reefs and waters that flow through the island chains. The Maldives Archipelago Collection came from those years.
